Instant Coffee: A Food You Never Dreamed Had Gluten

OK, Business Insider has a recent article describing 13 Surprising Foods that Have Gluten.. seriously?  Because of this article I felt the need to share some more knowledge – knowledge that may actually freak out some of you Folgers drinkers, even the non-celiac ones who…

Barilla Gluten Free Pasta – Penne

DISCLAIMER: This is a completely honest review.  I did not receive anything from Barilla to review this product. As many of you probably already know, it’s not so easy to find a gluten free pasta that doesn’t get too mushy or break up in the…

Celiac? Don’t give the baby gluten?

Celiac? Don’t give the baby gluten?

I just read a pretty frightening article.

Seems that researchers in Sweden have decided that infants genetically at risk for celiac disease double the risk of developing the disease if fed gluten before age two.

Check it out here.

Honestly every Jewish house tends to give their babies gluten straight from the beginning if everyone in the house isn’t celiac.  Challah is a huge part of our traditions.  It’s a mitzvah, G-d’s will for us to eat challah every Shabbos, something which is a really big headache for people with celiac disease unless they have someone to make them some yummy gluten-free challah and if they don’t, or they can’t deal with eating gluten-free oats – they lose the mitzvah.  Someone like my mother-in-law, who unfortunately does not really tolerate oats, has to just drink an extra serving of wine/grape juice as delineated in this article from Chabad.org.

Thank G-d Cheerios are gluten-free now.  No, really, this time they are. Really.  General Mills is already being sued for their original botch, BTW.  They hand them out in the schools and I don’t know what they would feed the kids in daycare if they didn’t have them.

What do you think?  When did you start giving your child gluten?  Or did you not?  Please comment below.

Oh CAAAAAAAAAAANADA.  Seems that 12% of the Canadian population has eliminated wheat from their diets.  This article discusses the plethora of area glutenfree restaurants and bakeries (not kosher, I’m betting) and states something that heck, I definitely find true in regards to our food bill:…

Check out the article here.  It’s a pretty descriptive and entertaining read regarding celiac disease and what people who have it go through.  Thanks to Margo Hirsch Strahlberg of the Kosher Me & Gluten Free Facebook group for the link.
